Introduction

This is a series of posts and pages on the rideshare industry. It’s a complicated business and each post will deal with a single issue or aspect. Similar to the complicated financial instruments which brought down the world economy in 2008, the rideshare industry has an opaque mathematical system for determining fare amounts and driver payments. It’s not “ride share” any longer, it’s “ride broker” with the rideshare company being the broker. They will determine how much they can get from the passenger, how little they can pay the driver, and they keep the difference. The fare is no longer distance and time. The result is customers are overpaying, drivers are underpaid, while the state and communities are being shorted on income tax income revenue.
