Happy Sunday morning from the Panera bread in Chelsea. Driving rideshare is a gamble. Even when it looks like you’re going to get something good they will change it. Maybe my chances of making money will be better at the Encore Casino that’s over my shoulder?
Surge and bonuses
Starting off the morning at my house I am surrounded by good surge/bonus numbers. But what do I get? A bonus of $2.25. How do they calculate that? We’ll never know because their process is as opaque as Boston bricks.

Upfront fares to the rescue?
How does the day go from there? Well thank God for upfront pricing. I’ll never earn less than the upfront fare. Oh wait! No! I do earn less than the upfront fare. Here the upfront fare is $6.41 and I end up getting paid $5.89.

How much did the customer pay for this trip from Chelsea to Tremont Street by Boston Common? Probably about 2 1/2 times what I got paid. Somewhere around $15. Uber will figure out how much they can charge the customer without laughing with themselves. That must be their pricing algorithm. This $6.41 is so not worth it.
Points and the quest for gold level
Well, if I’m not earning dollars to pay my living expenses, at least I’m earning some points. But what good are those? Just about nothing.
Soon I will be introducing a new section to this website called Receipts & Deceits. We’ll dig deep into this points scam and also do a deep analysis on the receipts.
