Top Driver Annoyances with Ride-Sharing Apps

The following is a list of top annoyances drivers would like addressed.

User Interface

  1. Relocate the acceptance button overlay position, it interferes with other actions.
  2. Relocate the decline button overlay position, it interferes with other actions.
  3. Relocate the match button overlay position, it interferes with other actions.
  4. Relocate the Destination Filter timed-out notification position, it interferes with other actions.
  5. Add an audio warning when the Destination Filter times out.
  6. Retain the passengers’ names on past trips.
  7. Shared trips do not offer complete information on destinations.
  8. Allow drivers to opt out of receiving shared rides.
  9. Unnecessary distraction while driving. (Example: Is traffic still there? YES / NO)
  10. Uber Help provides a multiple-choice list of problems, often a dead end. “Something else” should always be an option.

Pay related

  1. Trip Radar makes offers that are not available, (perhaps never available).
  2. Trip Radar wastes time processing unavailable rides which interferes with legitimate offers.
  3. Trip Radar offers the exact same ride, to different drivers, for different pay.
  4. Remove bonuses and incentives from the weekly total of passenger payments. Bonuses and incentives are not paid by passengers.
  5. Trips pay “estimated” duration, not actual duration. A rate card is needed to prevent time-shaving, including updated trips.
  6. Adding stops or updating trips does not provide an option to decline. Changes must be agreeable in the app.
  7. Bonuses and incentives are not offered equitably to all drivers.
  8. Lyft prevents canceling for no-shows until the driver phones the customer.
  9. Destination Filter’s target of a 5-minute trip can be a 45-minute trip offer in the opposite direction.
  10. Tolls should not be included when displaying the upfront fare to the driver. This is deceptive and is intended to entice a driver to accept a non-profitable ride.

Miscellaneous

  1. Passenger sees the driver’s payment or percentage when booking each trip.
  2. Create a separate (double) Driver Mileage Deduction for state taxes.
  3. Back pay when locked out for pending background checks or false accusations.
  4. Combine Uber and Lyft background checks and limit them to every two years.
  5. Make arbitration opt-in by default.
  6. $6.25 minimum trip / delivery payment.
  7. Shared rides, opt-out option.
  8. Airport, opt-out option.
  9. Precise and exact addresses. No pickup nearby. No deceptive locations.
  10. Keep IC’s, not employees. Flexibly is good.
  11. Look for a per hourly contractor rate, this way force Uber and Lyft to utilize driver time efficiently. Pickup then drop off easily as pie. Drivers won’t need surges or to cherry pick. Customer wants to take 20 minutes in the store then no big deal. Let Uber/Lyft figure out how to charge the customer for excessive wait time, where to position drivers for coverage etc.
  12. Fix Directional Filter so it works, not going 20 minutes backwards or sideways to go 5 minutes forward. Give DF constraints and filters.

I suggest changing the angry driver’s expression to an eye roll or forehead palm. We’re viewed in low regard as it is

    1. I would agree but in advance of the Ballot Question #3 initiative some research was done on voter attitudes toward drivers. They wanted to gauge the chances of success. Turns out passengers trust us. They trust us with themselves, they trust us with their children, and they trust us to provide professional service. It makes sense to me.
